Five-year-old to lead children's delegation to meet PM over Hindraf detainees' release

A five-year-old girl will lead a delegation of 200 children to Parliament on Feb 16, with the hopes of meeting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
Vwaishhnnavi, the only daughter of Hindraf leader P. Waytha Moorthy, wants to hand over roses and a memorandum, calling for the release of five Hindraf leaders detained under the Internal Security Act, to Abdullah. Thirty-five Hindraf supporters, along with Vwaishhnnavi, were at the Malaysian Human Rights Commission (Suhakam) headquarters at Jalan Raja Laut to hand over today a memorandum requesting its participation and support for the Feb 16 gathering.
Suhakam representative Datuk Dr Denison Jayasooria accepted the memorandum which was addressed to its chairman, Tan Sri Abu Talib Othman. Dr Jayasooria, who spent about an hour listening to the issues raised which included the right to assemble peacefully, said he would get back to them “as soon as possible” on the request to take part in the gathering.
According to Hindraf co-ordinator S. Manikavasagam, they have sent a letter to the Prime Minister’s office on the gathering at Parliament and was waiting for a reply. They would also be willing to accept a change in date or venue, should the Prime Minister request.
They have also applied for a police permit from the Sentul OCPD, but have yet to obtain permission.
Hindraf supporters P. Uthayakumar, R. Kengadharan, V. Ganabatirau, M. Manoharan and K. Vasantha Kumar, were detained on Dec 13 under ISA and are being held at the Kamunting Detention Centre in Taiping.
