March 3 mention for Uthayakumar's sedition case
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court here has set March 3 to mention the sedition case of Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) legal adviser P. Uthayakumar.
Judge Sabariah Othman allowed an application from DPP Raja Rozela Raja Toran for an adjournment, on grounds that the accused was currently being detained under Internal Security Act (ISA) following a minister order dated Dec 13 last year.
DPP Raja Rozela said the prosecution had written a letter to the Federal Court's chief registrar on Dec 26 last year, stating its intention to postpone the case on the similar grounds.
She said the law firm handling the case had also been notified earlier.
Lawyer S. R. Sree Devi said she had not received the said the letter from the prosecution and asked for a two-month adjournment to get further orders from her client.
Uthayakumar had on Dec 11 last year pleaded not guilty to a charge of publishing a seditious letter addressed to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown at a website.
He was said to have committed the offence at Menara Mutiara Bangsar between Nov 15 and Dec 8 last year.
